Seitz composed eight student concertos as well as other smaller works for young violinists to test their skills on. Concerto No.3 is in three movements which are all seamlessly joined together.
There are many student concertos that were written at the end of the 1800s and beginning the 1900s. These works were composed to be played with piano and not orchestra. Many arrangers have risen to the task of orchestrating the piano parts and here's my attempt...
Kreisler's Liebesfreud belongs to a set of three pieces entitled Alt-Wiener Tanzweisen. Liebesfreud (Love's Joy), Liebesleid (Love's Sorrow) and Schon Rosmarin (Fair Rosemarie). These pieces were published as a set of rediscovered classical manuscript but were in fact composed by Kreisler himself!
Every now and again you come across a composer or a piece that you have never heard of and wonder why don't I know about this? Well, for me, that doesn't happen all that often and I run a website that is full of obscure music and composers!
I came across Wilhel Dölb a short while ago with a set of two pieces Op. 44 for Violin and Piano. I can't find anything about him other than he lived in Book between 1892 and 1904 and his son was born in 1892.
His 3 Easy Concert Pieces Op. 30 certainly do deserve to be played. The opening Idylle is a charming piece that is playable in first and has some varied bowing patterns.
The Capriccietto has some good off the string bowing to get to grips with.
The Petite Gavotte is full of character and a little bit cheeky...
I do hope they will find their way into your repertoire.
Sarasate needs no introduction to violinists at all! I've loved the Introduction and Tarantella for many years. I've used Sarasate's score for violin and orchestra as a basis for this string orchestra arrangement.
The sheet music PDF file contains the score and all string parts.
