Bull The Herdgirl s Sunday for Cello Octet

"Profound expression, a true feeling for melody, natural elegance of style, and much warmth and originality". That was Berlioz impression of Ole bull as a musician.

The Herdgirl’s Sunday or Sæterjentens Søndag is a fine example of Bull's ability to write a good tune.  This arrangement for cello octet takes Johan Svendsen violin and orchestra version as a starting point.

Boisdeffre Reverie for 2 Cellos and Piano Op.55

Every now and again you come across a composer that you don't know and a piece that you just can't understand why you haven't heard it before!  Well, for me, that composer is Boisdeffre and the piece is his Reverie Op.55 for viola d'amour, strings and harp.  I guess it might not be surprising, with a combination like this, that it's not played every day.

YouTube, being the amazing site it is, has a beautiful recording of this piece.  Here, you will find the sheet music of an arrangement for 2 cellos and piano which I hope you find useful.

Hollman Mazurka for Cello and Piano

Hollman Mazurka for Cello and Piano

Hollman's cello music is not really played much these days!  It's a shame because he composed some really beautiful pieces.  This charming little Muzurka is from a set of four easy pieces for cello and piano.

Warlock Basse Danse from Capriol Suite for Cello Octet

Warlock is mainly known for his Capriol Suite.  Originally it was composed for piano duet in October 1926 but he orchestrated it for string orchestra a few months later.  This suite was inspired by Arbeau’s Ochesographie, a 16th century book on dancing.

Here is an arrangement of the first movement – Basse-Danse for cello octet
