Hans Sitt was a Bohemian violinist, violist, teacher, and composer. During his lifetime, he was regarded as one of the foremost teachers of violin. Many of his pupils worked in orchestras and conservatories across Europe and North America.
From 1884 to 1921 Sitt held the position of Professor of Violin at the Leipzig Conservatory where he wrote several important studies for violin and viola. Sitt also played the viola in the Brodsky Quartet of Leipzig from 1883 to 1895 along with Hugo Becker, Julius Klengel, and founder Adolph Brodsky.
The Reverie is the second of three pieces op.75 for viola composed by Sitt. The three pieces in the set comprise of an Elergy, Reverie and Barcarolle. This Reverie is a beautiful lyrical piece with a more animated middle section. A good piece to bring out the warm tone of the viola.
