Kreisler Praeludium and Allegro for Violin and String Orchestra

In 1936 Fritz Kreisler revealed to the world that many of the miniatures that he performed were composed by him and not works ascribed to earlier composers such as Gaetano Pugnani.  The Praeludium and Allegro had been published in 1905, thirty one years before this confession.  By that time it had found its way in the hearts of violinists and audiences alike.  The dramatic Praeludium gives way to the lively Allegro.  No one will ever know if Gaetano Pugnani (1731–98) would have enjoyed Kreisler’s fun piece but violinists certainly do!

Eichber Concertino for Violin and Piano

Eichber Concertino for Violin and Piano

Julius Eichber composed several educational pieces for the violin.  Here is a wonderful Violin Concertino to add to our student's repertoire.  It is nice and short with some good opportunities to build on solid left and right hand techniques.  I hope it's useful...

Grieg Sarabande for Cello and Piano

The Holberg Suite was originally composed for the piano, but a year later was adapted for string orchestra. The suite consists of an introduction and a set of dances. It is a charming, early essay in neo-classicism, an attempt to echo as much as was known in Grieg's time of the music of Holberg's era.

Here is an arrangement of the Sarabande for Cello and Piano.
