Potstock

William Potstock (1872–1941) was a German-born American violinist, composer, and music teacher who emigrated to Chicago with his family in 1881, aged nine, and spent his entire career there as a self-employed teacher and performer. His most celebrated composition, Souvenir de Sarasate Op. 15, a Fantasia Espagnole for violin and piano published by Carl Fischer in 1915, was dedicated to Pablo de Sarasate: a Chicago music teacher paying direct homage to the most famous violinist of the age. The piece demands left-hand pizzicato, double stops, and rapid passage-work, and remains in regular use as a teaching and recital work for advanced students.
