Paderewski
Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860–1941) was a Polish pianist, composer, and statesman who studied with Theodor Leschetizky in Vienna before becoming the most celebrated concert pianist of his generation. He used his fame deliberately: a passionate advocate for Polish independence, he lobbied Woodrow Wilson directly during the First World War, and Point 13 of Wilson's Fourteen Points, calling for a free Polish state, is partly attributed to his influence. In 1919 he became Prime Minister of Poland and signed the Treaty of Versailles as his country's representative, the only professional musician to lead a major nation's government.
