Siklós

Albert Siklós (1878–1942) was a Hungarian cellist, composer and theorist, born Albert Schönwald in Budapest and trained under Hans von Koessler, the teacher of Bartók, Kodály and Dohnányi. From 1919 until his death he ran one of the two composition classes at the Liszt Academy; Kodály took the other from 1921. Ferenc Farkas, Endre Szervánszky and the conductor Ferenc Fricsay all passed through his class. At twenty-one he produced both a Violin Concerto that appears never to have been performed and a Symphonie aetherique scored for twelve double basses. His own instrument shaped his catalogue: two cello concertos, a solo cello Suite, and the 8 pièces faciles for cello and piano.
