Accolay

Jean-Baptiste Accolay (1833–1900) was a Belgian violinist, teacher and composer, born in Brussels and trained at the Brussels Conservatoire under Lambert Meerts and Nicolas Wéry. He played solo flugelhorn in a cuirassier regiment at Bruges and first violin in the theatre orchestras of Namur and Bruges, then taught at the Bruges Conservatoire from 1860 until his death, moving from solfège to violin, viola, string quartet and harmony. In 1865 he helped found the city's Séances de musique classique. His A minor Concerto of 1868 is a student staple; the D minor, published by Schott in 1895, is also worth playing.
