Hall
Frederick Hall (1878–1956) was an Australian composer and a lifelong Melburnian who served for many years as musical editor of Allan & Co., the country's leading music publisher. From that desk he produced a steady stream of attractive salon and teaching pieces for violin and piano, frequently under a clutch of foreign-sounding pen names including Gabriel Morel, Georges Brand and Charles Surrey, so that a single house catalogue need not appear the work of one man. His titles favour the picturesque and the exotic, from Japonette to Gates of Bagdad. Arabian Love Song appeared in 1931 as part of his Violin Gems series, a graceful miniature in that same salon tradition.
