Schlemüller

Hugo Schlemüller (1872–1918) was a German cellist who taught at Dr Hoch's Konservatorium in Frankfurt from 1902, having trained at the conservatoire in Gotha and the University of Leipzig. Almost everything he wrote came out of the studio: graded collections organised by position, several of them offering a second cello in place of piano, which makes them genuinely useful in lessons and cello ensembles. He also ran his own publishing house and wrote a practical guide for musicians on securing concert engagements, The Artist as Businessman, published in 1916. That same year he was called up for war service. He gave up his Frankfurt post the following August and died at 45.
