Wieniawski
Henryk Wieniawski (1835–1880) was a Polish violinist and composer who entered the Paris Conservatoire at the age of eight and graduated with the premier prix at eleven, the youngest student ever to do so. His two violin concertos and the Légende Op. 17 are among the enduring works of the Romantic violin repertoire. He suffered from severe heart disease throughout the final decade of his life but continued performing against medical advice, driven partly by financial necessity. He died in Moscow at forty-four, having been taken in during his final illness by the composer and pianist Nikolai Rubinstein.
