Dancla was born in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and was discovered by violinist Pierre Rode in Bordeaux when he was only nine years old. Following this, Dancla enrolled at the Paris Conservatory where he studied violin with Baillot and composition with Fromental Halévy.

In 1857, Dancla was appointed as a professor at the Paris Conservatory and remained a successful teacher for over 35 years.

Dancla's Op. 89, composed in 1858, which features six airs, each based on themes by different composers including Pacini, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Weig, and Mercadante, is a significant contribution to the student violin repertoire.

Here is an arrangement for violin and string orchestra.
