Locatelli Concerto Grosso Op. 1 No. 2
Locatelli: Concerto Grosso Op. 1 No. 2 (with realised Harpsichord Part)
The concerto grosso structure is consistent across Op. 1: concertino of two solo violins and solo cello, set against the ripieno string orchestra. In this work the minor key gives the interplay between the two groups a more pointed quality. The concertino lines feel less decorative than in the major-key companions and more load-bearing, harmonically and expressively.
At ten minutes it gives the minor-key character enough time to develop properly without becoming heavy. It works well as the opening work of a programme, or as a contrasting partner to one of the major-key Op. 1 concertos.
This edition is prepared from the original score by Paul Wood, who has also provided a fully realised harpsichord continuo part.
Key features:
- Concerto grosso form with concertino (2 solo violins, solo cello) and ripieno string orchestra
- Fully realised harpsichord continuo part included
- From the XII Concerti Grossi, Op. 1
- Edited and realised by Paul Wood
- Duration: approx. 10 minutes
Who it's for: String orchestras wanting Baroque repertoire with genuine expressive weight; conductors looking for a concerto grosso that goes beyond the decorative and gives the ensemble something to commit to.
