Locatelli Concerto Grosso Op. 1 No. 3
Locatelli: Concerto Grosso Op. 1 No. 3 (with realised Harpsichord Part)
The concerto grosso form follows the Op. 1 pattern: concertino of two solo violins and solo cello against the ripieno string orchestra. In this work the concertino writing feels closely integrated with the tutti rather than sharply opposed to it, so the dialogue has a conversational quality. The contrast is still present, but the piece breathes more easily than some of its companions in the set.
At nine minutes it is among the more compact works in Op. 1, which makes it useful for programming alongside other pieces where a full concerto would unbalance the evening.
This edition is prepared from the original score by Paul Wood, who has also provided a fully realised harpsichord continuo part.
Key features:
- Concerto grosso form with concertino (2 solo violins, solo cello) and ripieno string orchestra
- Fully realised harpsichord continuo part included
- From the XII Concerti Grossi, Op. 1
- Edited and realised by Paul Wood
- Duration: approx. 9 minutes
Who it's for: String orchestras wanting Baroque repertoire with a warmer, more lyrical character; conductors looking for a well-proportioned concerto grosso that sits neatly within a mixed programme.
