Wieniawski Polonaise No. 2 Op 21 for Violin and String Orchestra
Wieniawski: Polonaise brillante No. 2 in A major, Op. 21 (Arr. Violin and String Orchestra)
Wieniawski's Polonaise brillante No. 2 is one of the great violin showpieces: nine minutes of bravura writing in the Polish dance tradition, shaped by a composer who was also one of the finest violinists of his generation. It moves quickly through melodic display, rhythmic drive, and passages of sustained brilliance, and it knows exactly what it's doing throughout.
This arrangement reduces the original full orchestral accompaniment to string orchestra, redistributing the wind and brass parts into the string texture. The solo part is unchanged. For ensembles without access to full orchestral forces, it makes the piece programmable in chamber concerts, festivals, and recital settings.
